Nutrition Label Reading

Sometimes it's confusing what's on those nutrition labels. We read through all these strange [complex]  names that make food shopping even more annoying, no worries your not the only one! Here I will provide some basic knowledge for label reading along with exercises that can prompt you to better understand these labels.

1. Can you calculate the amount of carbohydrate calories in this product? (hint: 1g = 4kcal)
2. How many servings does this product have in its container?

Energy Calculations
Carbohydrate: 1g = 4kcal
                                                                               Protein: 1g = 4kcal
                                                                               Fat: 1g = 9kcal
                                                                               Alcohol: 1oz = 7kcal

To begin to better understand portion sizes, below is an introduction to exchange lists. I would like to challenge the reader to keep a food diary for 1 day in which you measure everything (I mean everything) you eat and at the end of the day calculate how much you ate. You'll be  really surprised of your idea of 1 ounce and the actual measure of an ounce!
